Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest: Hi There . . .

I'm taking part in the 'Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest'.

The basic concept - in the growing blogasphere where new people are joining everyday - is to write a short piece about yourself in order to remind everyone once again who you are before you continue to get swallowed by the ever-expanding webspanse.

So here goes:

My real name (married): Dawn Rose Ilott.
My publishing name (maiden): Dawn Rose Cartwright (Or DRC to some)

I'm settled in a happy marriage to a HGV driver but have no children (except for a grown step-son).  Instead we have a cat, a Persian called Daisy - or Stinky Pete (Pete on good days).  On evenings when the other-half is out trucking, I'm usually writing.  I've written 15 novels since the age of ten and now have itchy fingers to find the perfect publishing agent for my more recent fantasy series (I say series but they're a collection of stand-alones set in the same fantasy world, and all connected with the same history and the same legends, etc etc, yada yada).  In the meantime I have a thriller and a collection of short horror stories published on Amazon Kindle, purely there as an experiment to see how easy self-publishing on the cheap is and to see whether it's the way forward for me or not.  Let's just say after a year and a bit of being self-published, I haven't given up hope in finding that agent.  So, until that day comes I'll keep writing my fantasies and my horrors and I'll keep doodling and designing and appreciating art, and I'll keep watching films and reading and living the life I lead.

I'm Dawn and I'm pleased to meet you all... :)

  2. Hi Dawn! I love fantasy series that are more collections than lead-on plots. I love to explore worlds through multiple stories, and not just one! :)

  5. I knew you'd written novels from an early age. I still find it very impressive. It was a while before I got over thinking whatever I wrote was rubbish! Good luck with the agent. They would be lucky to have you. :)

  10. Hi, Dawn,

Nice to meet you. WOW.. you have written SO MUCH. ANd you started so young. I was an artistic child too. I started drawing by age three.... I did a bit of poetry writing in grade school, but my passion for art was much stronger. I never lived a day without a pencil, pen, or paintbrush in my hand. Funny how our tastes change.

Now, even though I illustrate, I only draw for a specific project and not that often. I am GLUED to my computer, editing and writing. For work, I am an interior designer, but this type of art is way different than illustration and fine art.

I LOVE fantasy too. MY first novel is a m/g fantasy (which I illustrated) it is the first in a series. Started the second, but another book forced its way out of me.... an edgy y/a contemporary.

I, too, am searching for an agent. But In time .... it will come.

Looking forward to getting to know you and you writing better.

  12. You mean you haven't written another four novels last week? You're either slacking or getting old.

  19. How hard did you find it formatting for kindle,Dawn?

    1. Hi Mike

I didn't find editing for Kindle that difficult - as long as you made use of the formatting settings in whatever software you use to write with. I use Word and you can set it up so that once you press return for a new paragraph it automatically indents it, and use page breaks etc to prevent using those annoying tabs and returns down. It didn't like them.

Createspace, however (or Amazon's print on demand service) was a little different as you had to resize the pages of your work to fit the chosen book size. A little difficult sometimes and tedious as you have to wait at least five minutes everytime you re-upload the file. Stil...got there in the end. Are you having difficulties?
